Unlike what most people think, the IRS has nothing to dow ith the I-9 Form which verifies the identity of the newly hired employees and their legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
The I-9 Form is regulated and revisioned by the USCIS, United States Citizenship and Immigration. It is mandated for every employee who started working after 1986. Regardless of the employee’s citizenship status, they must oblige and submit their complete I-9 Form to their employers.
I-9 Form for Non-English Speakers
The recent change on the I-9 Form added a translator/preparer section at the bottom of the first page which is completed by the employees. So if a non-English speaker has to complete to the form, a translator must assist the person and sign the bottom where it says “I attest, under penalty of perjury, that I have assisted in the completion of Section 1 of this form and that to the best of my knowledge the information is true and correct.”
As far as acquiring the form itself goes, assuming that you’re the employee, you can get it by calling the USCIS and request a copy of the form. However, the downside to this is that it would take approximately 10 business days for it to arrive.
So the best option is to get it yourself by downloading a printable version of the form from the USCIS website. Click the link below to get the PDF version of the I-9 Form, Employment Eligibility Verification.
